Many of us are tightening our belts in several areas at the moment and there are several ways that we can save money from cheap car insurance and home insurance through to getting discounts on our everyday shopping items. It pays to be organised and diligent. And of course clever!

If you are able to plan your shopping ahead you can make considerable savings in the buy one get one free and other discounted offers. Wait till expensive items like dishwasher tablets and soap powder are on special offer then stock up. And try not to rely too much on convenience shops as you will be paying through the nose.

Use loyalty schemes to the maximum. Although the supermarket loyalty schemes tend not to pay out much they are better than nothing! Combine the savings with credit cards where you can earn points or cash back – but only if you pay in full at the end of each month.

If you are shopping by internet, spend a little longer to compare prices before you buy. And sign up to one of the cash back link sites to save even more. They also have frequent promotional offers.

So shop around even if it does take a little longer. Put simply, never buy anything without thinking first whether you can buy cheaper elsewhere.
